Dynamic Half-rate Connections in GSM
نویسنده
چکیده
Dynamic Half-rate is an optional feature that allows a GSM cell to switch new incoming half-rate capable calls to half-rate speech coding, when the cell is nearly congested. Since two half-rate speech calls can be put together in one single time slot, Dynamic Half-rate has the potential to double the radio capacity of the cell. We develop a model to analyze the performance of this feature. This model is based on a reduction of the state space, which makes an efficient approximation possible. The developed approximation is a modification of the well-known Kaufman-Roberts recursion. It turns out to be extremely accurate, computationally efficient and approximately insensitive with respect to the holding time distribution. Finally, with the help of this approximation the benefits of Dynamic Half-rate are shown. keywords: Dynamic Half-rate, GSM, congestion, approximation, Kaufman-Roberts recursion

A multi-rate speech and channel codec: a GSM AMR half-rate candidate
The current GSM standard is a fixed rate system which has been optimised to give good performance in all channel conditions. However since the channel conditions in a terrestrial mobile communication network such as GSM vary significantly between the best and the worst case, the existing GSM speech and channel coding performance can be improved by incorporating the dynamic channel conditions in...
متن کاملGSM EFR based multi-rate codec family
This paper describes a multi-rate codec family developed as a potential candidate for the GSM Adaptive Multi Rate (AMR) codec standard. The codec family consists of the GSM Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) codec [I] and lower bit-rate extensions thereof: The codec family consists of several codecs, i.e., modes that have different bit-rate partitionings between source coding and error protection. All th...

An increasing number of users access the WWW from small portable mobile hosts connected through di erent network interfaces supporting mobility: wireless low bandwidth connections over long distances (GSM 9.6 Kbit/s), wireless medium bandwidth connections over small distances (waveLAN 2 Mbit/s), desk area infrared connections to stationary LANs (NetBeamIR 4 Mbit/s). The connections have di eren...
متن کاملChannel assignment for GSM half-rate and full-rate traffic
Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) supports full-rate and half-rate calls. In this paper, we propose analytical and simulation models to study the performance of four channel assignment schemes for GSM half-rate and full-rate traac. Our study indicates that among the four schemes, the repacking scheme has the best performance for mixing half-rate and full-rate traac. We also observe ...
متن کاملNonlinear inelastic dynamic analysis of space steel frames with semi-rigid connections in urban buildings
Applied studies addressing semi-rigid connections have been limited. Scant information exists in regulations except little brief information. Therefore, this research analyzes the behavior of three-dimensional steel frames and semi-rigid connections based on beam-column method and non-linear dynamic analysis. Stability functions and geometric stiffness matrix were used to study the non-linear g...
